What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is the U.K.’s largest secular, fraternal and charitable organisation, united by a belief in God as Supreme Being.
It teaches moral lessons and self-knowledge through participation in a progression of two part plays without trespassing on the preserves of religion, and at the same time exhorting its members to practice the religion of their choice.
Are you a Religion or a Rival to Religion?
Freemasonry requires a belief in God; its principles are common to many of the world’s great religions. Freemasonry does not try to replace religion or substitute for it.
Every candidate is exhorted to practise his own religion and to regard its holy book as the unerring standard of truth. Freemasonry does not instruct its members in what their religious beliefs should be, nor does it offer sacraments.
Freemasonry deals in relations between men; religion deals in a man’s relationship with his God.
How much does it cost?
It varies from Lodge to Lodge, mostly depending on the cost of dining. Having entered Freemasonry, the costs relative to your own Lodge would have been fully explained by your Proposer or Seconder.
Costs of Joining our Lodge will be clearly defined at your initial interview.
The Loyal Sportsman Lodge No 9197 is a dining Lodge, which means that we pay our dining fees with the annual subscription; some Lodges are not, and pay as-you-dine.
How do I Join?

Our Lodge was Founded on 1st May 1986, by Loyal Freemasons, who were all keen Sportsmen, hence the name Loyal Sportsman.
Part of the traditions established at the Foundation of the Lodge was that the February Regular Lodge Meeting be designated as ‘Founders’ Night and that the ‘After Proceeding’ must have a ‘sports’ theme with an invited Guest to deliver a talk on the topic of their particular Sport. The Lodge has over the years invited a number on notable Guest Speakers as well as Brethren from within the Lodge to talk about their own love of sport.
The Guest speakers who have attended over the years have been the World Boxing Champion Jack Peterson; the Olympic Athlete Dame Tanni Grey Thompson; Welsh Olympic Archery Coach Digby Mansel Edwards and Tim Vaughan, a highly successful Horse Trainer, to name but a few. Other speakers have told fascinating stories from Sports Commentating, Motor Sports, Professional Cycling, Sailing Before the Mast, Rugby & Mountaineering.
